Second floor at Morton up and almost under deck
The sights at Morton change almost daily as more and more of the building goes up and under roof. The specials area is completely under roof, the cafeteria is roughed out, and mechanicals, electrical, and other infrastructure continue to be installed.
Much progress has also been made on the academic wing. This section of the building will be under deck within the next week. Metal studs have defined future classroom spaces on the first floor, and masons are working on finishing interior block work on the second floor. Construction has started on the grand monumental staircase in the front lobby and plumbing rough-ins hint at spaces like classroom labs and restrooms.
The black material on the academic wing is weatherproofing material. Its appearance signals that brick work won't be far behind! Windows will also arrive soon.
Much work yet remains, but the interior of the building is already shaping up to be a beautiful, exceptional space. The magnificent windows will provide great views and bring ample sunshine into the classrooms, and the large hallways and relatively simple floorplan will make the new building much easier for students to to navigate.
